Somali pirates now hunt the same detour routes crude took to dodge Hormuz
The Cape detour around Hormuz is sailing straight into revived Somali piracy. Pirates have attacked at least 13 ships this year, most of them tankers, as navies shifted to the Gulf. With Qatari LNG through Hormuz down about 80 percent, Asian buyers are racing to lock in US cargoes instead. Each squeeze adds cost that props up oil and gas prices.
