Vanguard Total Bond Market ETF (BND) is a fund that pools investors' money to buy thousands of U.S. bonds at once, including government Treasuries, mortgage-backed securities, and investment-grade corporate debt. Instead of picking a single bond, buying a share of BND gives an investor a slice of the entire U.S. bond market in one purchase. It makes money for shareholders mainly through the interest payments those bonds generate, paid out as a monthly dividend, plus whatever the bonds themselves are worth day to day.
