GSG

GSG is a fund from iShares that tracks the S&P GSCI, an index of raw materials. It holds futures contracts, which are agreements to buy a commodity at a set price on a future date. The index leans heavily toward oil and fuels, with smaller shares in farm goods, metals, and livestock. Buyers use it to bet on rising commodity prices or to hedge against inflation, and the fund earns nothing by itself: its value rises and falls with the prices of the materials it follows.
