IBB is an exchange-traded fund, essentially a basket of stocks bundled into one that you can buy or sell like a single share. It tracks the NASDAQ Biotechnology Index, giving investors exposure to roughly 200 US-listed biotech and pharmaceutical companies such as Amgen, Regeneron, Vertex, and Gilead. The fund doesn't make or sell drugs itself; it earns for its manager through a small annual fee and rises or falls based on how its underlying holdings perform.
