Steel Dynamics is one of the largest steel producers and metal recyclers in the United States. It runs electric-arc-furnace mini-mills that melt scrap metal into steel products like flat-rolled sheet, structural beams, and specialty bars, plus a fabrication arm that turns steel into joists and decking for construction projects. A metals-recycling division, OmniSource, collects and processes scrap that feeds its own mills and gets sold to others, so the company earns money at both the raw-material and finished-product ends of the steel chain.
